Suzette Byrnes Stratham O’Reilly

Road Train Driver

In the late 1960’s before auto trucks were a thing, before aircon and heating were standard and way before power steering, 23-year-old, 152cm farm girl, Suzette Byrnes Statham O’Reilly, was driving road trains across outback QLD showing the “boys” how it was done! Back in Suzette’s day, there were few remote area phone boxes (let alone mobile phones) no rattle guns, no truck fridges, no auto tyre inflaters and in too many case – no roads – just endless dusty tracks that went on forever!

Fast-forward fifty years and Suzette is STILL jamin Kenworth gears when she gets the opportunity. An accomplished barrel racing champion, she remains very much involved with her horses and the sport.  Gutsy, determined and hilarious, Suzette has a million wonderful stories to tell.  She has defied the odds, survived the impossible and achieving the unthinkable. There are some people you will never forget and Suzette is one of them!
